Does anyone know of someone who is a member of the Best Buddies program? We had never heard of it until our son changed schools a couple of years ago.

For those that don’t know about it, Best Buddies is about matching up a special needs person with a peer. As an example, in our son, Nick’s, high school, Nick is matched up with a ‘regular’ high school kid. The other child goes into our Nick’s class and does activities with him. The class has occasional outings into the community with their Buddy, and they’re encouraged to keep in touch by phone or email or visiting each other when not in school. It’s a pretty cool program, actually.
The program was started by a Kennedy (not surprised). Here’s a link to the Best Buddies web site. And it’s not just for young kids in school. There are also programs for colleges & businesses.
